![]() With Valentine's Day right around the corner, it's common for many of us to start feeling a way about our relationship status. Whether you are in a relationship, single, dating, or a situationship, Valentine's Day definitely brings some interesting emotions. I feel like a lot of times we get caught up on our status in relation to other people that we may forget to focus on just self. We get so caught up in obtaining love from others and that we neglect to nurture the love we must have for ourselves. So in the spirit of Valentine's Day, I figured I'd take this time to write a piece on self-love. What Is Self-Love? I see self-love as the love that we give ourselves in order to be whole. It's the love that we give ourselves to be the very best version of ourselves. It's the love we need to be full and complete. I say complete because many times we think someone else is supposed to complete us, but in actuality, we should be complete and whole on our own. Basically, self-love is giving ourselves the love we expect others to show us. I mean think about it...how can we expect others to love us if we do not know how to love ourselves first? How to Practice Self-Love? Pinterest came through with a ton of "ways to practice self-love" lists. Some of these might sound a little silly or awkward, but I think they are worth a shot. Here are a few: 1. Buy yourself flowers. 2. Take yourself on a date. 3. Say "I love you" to yourself in the mirror. 4. Practice positive self-talk. 5. Forgive yourself and others. 6. Clear out bad vibes. 7. Treat yourself to a spa day. (Manicure, pedicure, face mask, massage) 8. Make a vision board. 9. Stop comparing yourself to others. 10. Nurture your dreams and be intentional. Quotes on Self-Love Okay so as usual, these are some quotes I found on Pinterest. Some of them have no author attached. But, I think they are great comments on self-love. 1. "Perhaps we should love ourselves so fiercely, that when others see us, they know exactly how it should be done." - Rudy Francisco 2. "It's all about falling in love with yourself and sharing that love with someone who appreciates you, rather than looking for love to compensate for a self-love deficit." 3. "To fall in love with yourself is the first secret to happiness." - Robert Morley 4. Talk to yourself like you would talk to someone you love." - Brené Brown Authors That Write About Self Love Need a little more on self-love and self-care? Here are some writers that have works on self-love. All of them have social media outlets to so don't be shy about looking them up! 1. Alex Elle 2. Rupi Kaur 3. Reyna Biddy 4. Geneva Diamond All of this to say I hope all of you take a minute to love yourselves and recognize your worth. Take a minute to appreciate the beauty and all the complexities that make you who you are. Love yourself when you are in a relationship. Love yourself when you are single. Love yourself when you are sad and love yourself when you're happy. Just love yourself! Like I said earlier, we have to love ourselves before we expect anyone to truly love us. Happy Valentine's Day to all of you!

Love it. Valentine’s Day isn’t about the gifts and feeling bad because you may or may not have a Valentine, it’s about YOU. It’s about LOVE. Whether it’s a family member, yourself, OR a significant other!
